Before You Go, Get the Proper Permits
Many hikes and scenic locations require a special permit. In both states, you’ll need a Northwest Forest Pass to access federal land and the Discover Pass for state land in Washington. In Oregon, parking passes are required at most trailheads. Additionally, a special Central Cascades Wilderness Permit is required to access the iconic peaks, alpine meadows, lakes, and forests in and around much of Central Oregon.
